Your guide to pruning roses

With the growing season quickly approaching, March is a great time to renovate your roses.

– Always use clean sharp tools.
– Prune the three ‘D’s first, dead, deceased dying.
– Prune crossing stems to reduce infection.
– Reduce the plant by a third.

With a pair of sacateurs angle the cut cleanly over the stem no more than 5mm above a bud either on a stem or a leaf axil. Sloping gently away so that the lower end of the cut is opposite the bud.
